Spider Venoms for Scientific Research
Posted:Feb 09, 2023        Views:137        Back to List
Amerigo Scientific and Venomtech have recently reached a mutual agreement in providing the Acanthogonatus francki venom, hoping to help researchers uncover additional scientific research potential regarding spider venoms.

The research and understanding of spiders and related venoms are currently limited. For example, theraphosid spider venoms are well characterized with regard to ion channel inhibitors, such as the Inhibitor Cysteine Knot (ICK) peptides, but inhibition of snake venom serine proteases is unreported. Additionally, the phospholipase A2 (PLA2) enzymes have been discovered in the venom of theraphosid spiders. When no PLA2 inhibitors have been discovered thus far in spiders, they’ve been documented in snake serum. To investigate the presence of venom inhibitors and further facilitate the studies related to spider venoms, Amerigo Scientific and Venomtech decided to work closely by offering highly qualified spider venoms at competitive prices.

As a recognized distributor focused on providing critical products and services to the biomedical and life science communities, Amerigo Scientific supplies Aacanthogonatus francki venom with high quality and speedy delivery to meet the industry requirements – from hitting the next drug target to developing revolutionary cosmetic or crop protection initiatives. Dominated by small peptide ligands and polyamines, venoms play roles in signal pathways involving a variety of receptors, such as GPCRs, ion channels, and kinases. More importantly, theraphosid, araneomorph, and other spider venoms are now for sale at Amerigo Scientific, which has guaranteed that the whole venom package contains all complex mixture components.

As the studies associated with spider venoms dived deeper, research has found that spider venoms have an inhibitory effect on snake venoms and inspired the discovery of the enzyme inhibitor using the Targeted-Venom Discovery Array™ (T-VDA™) as a new hit-finding strategy. Since spider venoms are a rich source of potent ion channel modifiers that have been finely tuned by millions of years of evolution, Amerigo Scientific is proud to expand access to these venoms for global researchers.
